In May 2023, Franco-Dutch violist Sào Soulez Larivière won the 2023 Prague Spring Competition and the Viktor Kalabis Prize. He is also a winner of: the Tokyo Viola Competition, Oskar Nedbal Competition, Max Rostal Competition, Cecil Aronowitz Competition and Johannes Brahms Competition. Born in Paris, Sào originally started playing the violin, and was awarded a scholarship to study with Natasha Boyarsky at the Yehudi Menuhin School in England. Having discovered the viola whilst playing chamber and orchestral music there, he decided to fully devote himself to the instrument towards the end of his studies. NEWS.
He currently resides in Berlin, while pursuing a Master of Music degree with Tabea Zimmermann at the Kronberg Academy. In 2021, he received the Fanny Mendelssohn Förderpreis, which enabled him to release his debut album ‘Impression‘. This 2023 album with pianist Annika Treutler consists of : R. Clarke – Viola Sonata.
